When was the last time you cleaned your aircon?
Most people say they wash the filter every 1–2 months, but the unit itself has never been cleaned since it was installed 2–5 years ago. (Imagine not cleaning your ceiling fan or shower for that long.)
How often should I clean my aircon?
Ideally, air filters kept clean every 1–2 months, and a proper clean of the unit every 1–2 years — the exact interval depends on how much you run it and the environment it’s in. Winter or spring is the best time, so it’s ready to perform when summer hits. Improves cooling, saves running costs, and gives your family a healthier home.
Who should clean my aircon?
An experienced and qualified tradesperson. A proper clean includes the drain, fan, cooling coil, air filter and plastic cover vents — plus the outdoor unit where needed.
Will my aircon actually work better after a clean?
Yes — it should cool more efficiently, run for less time, save power and stop leaking water. It’ll also look clean and new again. (Provided the gas charge is right and the unit is sized for the room.)
Does the box-type aircon have to come off the wall?
Most of the time Kevin can clean the necessary areas without removing the unit. If it’s leaking badly down the wall, it may need to come off — that costs extra as it needs more labour, and electricals may need to be disconnected (especially in rentals or on lower-tariff power).
Why does a clean unit matter?
Dust, mould, bacteria and algae can all live in a dirty aircon. That can trigger asthma, hayfever, fatigue, sore throats and dry eyes. Whether at home or work, everyone in the family — including the kids and the pets — can enjoy clean, cool air.
